June Network Event - featuring BBC ‘Dragon Slayer’ Ian Taylor

We have all seen the BBC TV programme Dragons' Den. But what is it really like to appear on the hit TV programme? And what does it take to actually win investment from the Dragons? Most people who appear on the BBC TV programme are knocked back by the words "I'm Out". But one of the very few people to succeed in the Dragons' Den is Ian Taylor who won investment from celebrity entrepreneur James Caan. How did he manage to win where so many others have failed? What secrets did he learn from the experience? What happened next? And what happens to successful entrepreneurs four years after they have appeared in the Dragons' Den?

On Monday 8th June all these questions were answered, when Ian gave a fascinating talk about his experiences of being one of the very few people to win investment on BBC's Dragons' Den.

In addition to the fascinating talk by Ian, on the night we also raised over 150 pounds for the Macmillan Support Centre in Huddersfield and Halifax.

Special thanks go to Xpand Marketing (www.xpandmarketing.co.uk) who kindly donated a Kindle for use in our free prize draw.

On 7th September, the No.1 Best Selling author Richard McCann (photo on left) gave us an inspirational talk about his amazing life, and shared some important lessons he has learnt.

Richard is the author of four best-selling books, the first of which ‘Just a Boy’ was a UK No.1 Best Seller, selling over half-a-million copies. It is soon to be made into a film for global release.

Our November 2015 event featured a talk by Bill McHugh, the CEO of West Yorkshire Probation CRC. His organisation is responsible for the delivery of court orders and prison licences to some of the most demanding offenders, who if not effectively supervised, can escalate risks to the public. They provide targeted interventions and offender management to reduce re-offending and protect the public.

Bill leads the 4th largest Probation CRC in the UK and is also an active member of the West Yorkshire Local Criminal Justice Board and the Police and Crime Commissioner's Executive Group. He previously worked in the Probation Services in Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Humberside and Northumbria. He also worked at the Ministry of Justice in London as Seconded Chief Executive, delivering a number of government initiatives.

In addition to the talk by Bill, the event also featured a presentation by Paul Lockwood, a Probation Service User Rep.
